I think you are all missing the point here. Clearly this advice is aimed at people who do not have a lot of paddling experience.
I think you are all missing the point here. Clearly this advice is aimed at people who do not have a lot of paddling experience.
I agree with the other comments here - this advice is total pants unless it is aimed for the middle of Lidl inflatable owners, in which case it is fine. The PaddleSafer material that my club has merged into the delivery of the Discover Award touches on weirs and includes a link about the buzz and enjoyment of weirs which is contrary to this video.
This is the only one of these videos I think is total crap advice! Wiers are great for safe controlled white water skills learning and practice! Some are even safe to shoot of you plan amd know what you are doing!
Are you saying no paddling near any weir? Plenty of weirs are relatively safe, some on the other hand are dangerous. It all depends on a number of factors, design of weir, flow of water, escape routes above and below the weir, ability to perform a rescue. Saying steer clear of weirs as a general statement will mean the removal of many good paddling spots across the country which seems a big shame, wouldn't it be better to look at weirs individually to understand the risks associated with each, local clubs could assist with that, and provide some better more comprehensive guidance.
Great exciting water sport. 👍 Olympics 2024
Woohoo🎉🎉 fav male kayaker 🎉🎉
How do they do that 💭🤔💬
Can i get an unclipped version? Its os hard to see on mobile
I'm pritty nee to this. I've started paddleboarding along the Midlands canals. I enjoy the peace it brings along with the added excersize. One issue I've started to notice, which is potentially dangerous, is canal boats not seeing you. Mainly on a bend. I have considered maybe carrying a air horn but I would worry this may disturb wildlife. Do you have any advice ?
I’d say keep in the middle so canal boats can see you but then move to the side (right) to let them pass. Air horn is gonna make you very unpopular with other users, maybe as an absolute last resort. My personal experience with canal boats has always been very positive. But you do just need to keep aware.
Don't need the music.
Nice to see the coordination between Paddle UK and SCA, CW and CANI.
Such a smart new logo to embrace all of the watersports - well done Paddle UK!
Thanks for your support, we're looking forward to this new chapter.
Very good thank you
Is it hard to find used sprint canoes? I can’t find any!!
Great video and very brave to be so open. I saw this clip at the worlds today on the big screen but couldn’t really hear what you were saying. Glad you’re enjoying your boating again 😁
I see you in the background jiri
That's not even a canoe. That's a kayak.
Both are still boats after all tho
Hi, if canoe polo top level boats are composite light carbon / kevlar builds, how come Kayak X boats are plastic and 18 kgs plus?
We are very proud of all our female paddlers, coaches and non-paddling volunteers at Kingston Kayak Club. Without them, we would not be able to deliver what we do. We think that paddlesports are so varied, it really is open to all. ruclips.net/user/shortsZXrF0hfH9Iw

Man... That hit home a little to close..
Good on you for putting yourself out there, look after yourself and look forward to seeing you on the water soon
Definitely don’t leave your bottom half exposed 😂
Какая прилежная ученица😊😊😊
Looks awesome. I can imagine it's quite different canoeing over there. Here in Ontario, there are tons of great options. Canoe tripping really brings folks together.
Awesome! I’ve just started at Lincoln Canoe Club and have short fingers on my right hand. Coaches were nothing but supportive and can do! 👏
That's brilliant, so great to hear that Neil 😁
I can't swim but planning to start paddling. Is this an issue? I would have an inflatable vest. Thanks 👍
Nice to see anglers and paddlers cooperating instead of yelling at each other🙂
Well done.brilliant...!
Great video and I am liking the simple message - Respect Protect Enjoy. Would have been good to see a sea kayak somewhere?
Great great video! Super informative, well done, entertaining! Such a joy to watch!
Why must you gay-up everything? Who cares? Paddling has nothing to do sexual preference.
Within the natural environment there are elements that occur for a good bloody reason our planet has evolved to mitigate itself in our absence ,,, before you think to remove anything try gaining a decent understanding of why it's there and what its role is in the biome your dealing with.. dynamic systems are not as simply as cause and effect....
Fantastic to see so many Athletes getting through to Finals and winning Medals. British Canoeing / Kayaking is looking good.
Go PHCC.
This isn't a canoe it's a white water kayak
Great video, really helpful. Thanks

Watching this for the first time in 2022. New kayaker and the brits call it a canoe while we on the other side of the pond call them kayaks. The stroke names are the same, thank you Helen Reeves for the straightforward explanations and practical demonstrations, cheers!
Good overview - thanks. Really like the increased use of e-learning courses and the club webinar series too. The podcasts are also really useful
